Las Vegas: exclusive fall events

Las Vegas transforms with two limited-run international offerings this fall.

This September, Encore at Wynn Las Vegas debuts Casa Playa, a vibrant Mexican concept helmed by executive chef Sarah Thompson. The enhanced dining experience features authentic dishes, innovative cocktails and entertainment all working together to create the ambience of a lively Mexican playacita.

Guests will experience a curated mezcal and tequila collection within an upscale feet-in-the-sand dining experience. The menu offers playful dishes like squash blossom quesadillas, baja fried fish tacos, blue shrimp ceviche and yellowfin tuna tartare. Seafood platters focus on oysters, scallops, king crab legs, lobster tails and shrimp cocktail.

Bold flavors are found in appetizers like black truffle tostadas, duck confit tamal with mole de la casa and ricotta, and octopus served with coloradito mole and potato in escabeche. Main selections include branzino a la talla and Yucatan chicken pibil made with orange annatto adobo and potato.

“My goal when crafting the menu for Casa Playa was to balance creativity with tradition to ensure that every item is a culinary adventure,” said Chef Thompson. “Casa Playa will offer a lively social atmosphere, so we wanted to complement that with food that is designed to be shared and enjoyed with great company and conversation.”

Then down The Strip at Bellagio’s Mayfair Supper Club, guests will find one of the Mediterranean’s most sought-after dining and entertainment experiences: Lío by Pacha Group. Exclusively offered October 18-31, Lío Ibiza will offer a dynamic performance combining provocation, beauty and mischief in an all-night sensory experience unlike any other.

Orlando: Halloween and autumn festivities

While Orlando is always a fan-favorite for theme park enthusiasts, autumn poses a particularly exciting time to visit for seasonal festivities. That’s because Orlando considers itself the Halloween Vacation Capital of the World, thanks to a slew of fun and spooky-thrill events at theme parks, restaurants and hotels throughout the destination.

At Universal Orlando Resort, Sept. 3 through Oct. 31, visitors can experience haunted houses, scare zones, live entertainment and Beetlejuice appearances. Or take a wander through a maze inspired by the Netflix series “The Haunting of Hill House.”

SeaWorld Orlando guests can find terror at Howl-O-Scream running Sept. 10 through Oct. 31. The event features haunted houses and scare zones, with an interactive festive bar for adults, while the whole family will enjoy daytime events with Halloween characters at the SeaWorld Spooktacular.

Then at LEGOLAND Florida, guests will find spooky fun at Brick or Treat, a trick-or-treat celebration with exclusive Halloween characters. On weekends, guests of Gatorland will also find gators, ghosts and goblins offering specialty theme shows, surprise monster appearances and “Frank & Stein’s” Octoberfest Pavilion.

Outside of these attractions, Orlando visitors are in for more spooky fun at the Orlando Science Center and Museum of Illusions Orlando, while the Downtown Arts District hosts the 12th Annual Dia de los Muertos & Monster Party on October 21. This special event showcases Day of the Dead and Halloween-inspired art by regional, national and international artists. Festivities also feature outdoor food and drink and entertainment options.

With all these seasonal offerings, guests should keep an eye on specials at area accommodations. Universal Orlando Resort, for example, is offering a special 4-night Halloween Horror Nights Hotel & Ticket Package with rates starting at $149 per person, per night. The 4-night stay includes tickets to three popular parks: Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal’s Volcano Bay. Guests will also have one-night admission to Halloween Horror Nights and select live entertainment venues at Universal CityWalk.
